From The Inland to the Coast

Thursday 29th September

Some statistics from our trip so far:
                                                             Distance travelled:  3561 km
                                                             Fuel used:  280.82 litres
                                                             Average fuel used:  7.88l/100km

Today was a short day, Norseman to Esperance about 204 km.  We left at; you guessed it, 8.30 am.  We got here at about 11.30 am.

While I was cleaning the windscreen this morning I noticed some of the trim was missing from around the windscreen.  Must have come off sometime yesterday while we were driving.  Esperance has a Kia Dealer but was unable to supply.  They gave me the part number and I have ordered it from the Kia Dealer in Bunbury (the nearest to our travel trail).  They were only too pleased to help.

Before we left Norseman we took some photos of the local wildlife.  They have life size corrugated iron camels.  They look really good and don’t each much.

More Norseman Camels

The trip from Norseman had all sorts of scenery, when we left Norseman it was stubby desert trees and when we finished it was wheat and cattle, all green.  There was one crop that looked like canola but because it didn’t have the flowers on for me it was hard to tell.

Emu Chick and Dad

Because we couldn’t get into our accommodation before 2.00pm we took a drive to Le Grand Cape National Park.  The road to the park went past some cultivated forestry.  Deb asked me to stop and back up.  Her good eyes had spotted an emu dad and a chick. (If you don’t know how I know it was a dad check on Google).  We did get a couple of good photos of the pair.
The main road in the National Park led to Le Grand Beach.  It was really beautiful.  The colour of the water went from a greeny blue to a deep blue.  The sand went to the west for what seemed forever and the eastern end was a great rock wall.  If it was in the tropics it would be almost perfect.

Esperance is a port as well as a tourist destination because of its magnificent beaches.  We went up to the Rotary Lookout to see the town.  The beaches have bright white sand and brilliantly clear water.  All shades of blue and green.  Some of the beaches are a little hard to get to but have names like Blue Haven Beach.

Tomorrow we are off to Albany which will be our stepping off place to the Margaret River Region.
