Wednesday 12th, Thursday 13th, Friday
16th and Saturday 17th October.
Before I get into this blog, I should apologise because I
posed a question about which ocean was which and didn’t supply the answer. Picture A was the Indian Ocean and Picture B
was the Southern Ocean.
Suzanne and Bilal invited us over for morning tea
today. Bilal has a very nice house which
is on a battle axe block and is very quiet.
Suzanne made some date scones for us and she was aiming to have them
better than the Bakers Delight ones. I
reckon she succeeded. They were
better.
We then headed to a park near Rockingham that is dedicated
to the Navy. There is an old 4.5” turret
from HMAS Derwent and the sail off HMAS/M Orion. There are plaques to a lot of old ships,
mainly those that participated in the Korean and Vietnam wars. The centre piece however is a memorial to
HMAS Perth that went down in Sunda Strait in 1942. A credit to the city of Rockingham. We will be going there on Monday evening for
fish and chips so I’ll include some pictures then.
The house at Falcon is great. There are four good sized bedrooms and two
bathrooms. Because Deb and I were the
first on the scene we made the sacrifice of taking the master bedroom with the
ensuite and dressing room. We thought
that there might be a bit of friction between the other residents if they were
available when they arrived. The house
is definitely not a holiday shack, it is well set up with outdoor dining area
if needed, good sized yard with a shed.
There is even an outside shower for those who take a dip in the ocean
which is only 300 to 350 metres away.
Thursday
Did some washing today and would you believe as soon as it
was hung out it bucketed down. Gave us a
good excuse to go up to Mandurah to find a laundromat to do the drying and have
a cuppa. While we were out we took the
opportunity to get some more strawberries.
On Sunday we visited the same little farm to get some strawberries on
our way home from Caron’s shop. What
cost us $13 on Sunday, cost us $10 on Wednesday. We gave some to the Passmores and some to Suzanne
who is making a cake using strawberries for David’s birthday.
Went in to Rockingham to the big shopping centre to get
groceries etc.. The place has really
grown over the last 3 years. They were
making changes when we were here in 2008 because we used to pick up Mathew when
he worked at Tandy there.
Had a wood fired pizza for tea because we had to go up to
the airport to pick, Ruth, Jan and Bernie up and didn’t feel like cooking. If Terry’s Pizza were wood fired they would
be brilliant. Found our way to Perth
Domestic Terminal with Betty’s help.
Friday
Picked up the trio from the east. Stupid o’clock as Lizzie would say. They were due at 12.45 am but were 10 minutes
late. Not too bad really for a flight that
took over 5 hours. Had a really good
trip back down the freeways, we went on four of them. Didn’t hear one turn because of chatter from
the peanut gallery but Betty got us back on track.
Arrived in Falcon at around 2.30 am and by the time we had
toast and Vegemite it was 3.00 am before we were in bed. Everyone was up and functioning by 8.30
am. Jan was the first up at 5.30 am
local time.
We went up to Mandurah to go to the Tourist Information
Centre. We were given a quest by Caron
to get some brochures etc. about the local Peel District for all her visitors
on the weekend of their party. We
carried this out so successfully that we had a cuppa. We went to the local Dome overlooking the
water. Dome is a chain of cafĂ©’s,
restaurant and coffee shops and we have only come across them here in Western
Australia.
Came back to the house and got the barbecue and outdoor
setting from the shed ready for Caron and Andrew’s visit for a BBQ. Suzanne came down with them and Bilal picked
her up from here. They had already
planned a meal out with a friend of Suzanne’s.
Had a good night.
Saturday
Bernie, Andrew and I went to the Mandurah Boat Show. Jan, Ruth and Deb had a look around Mandurah while
we were there. Some really nice boats. I’m sure that some of them could have been
classified as ships. Andrew found a nice
catamaran he liked, it was only $335,000.
The trouble was that the one next to it was much better and nicer with a
corresponding price tag. There were a
number of boats there worth over $1,000,000.
There were a few there without a price tag so I presume that they used
the Rolls Royce philosophy,” if you have to ask the price you can’t afford it”.
Dropped Andy off at the train station at Mandurah. It’s David’s birthday and Andrew thought it
would be nice to go back and spend the rest of the day with him. On the way home we went to the most awarded
bakery in WA which is on the Old Coast Road not far from us. We bought some small soft rolls from there
for lunch

Walked to the beach for a bit of exercise. Nice beach and you can see all the way to Mandurah. Bit hazy today but there wasn’t much
wind. I will say that something they are
not short of around here is wind.
We’re off to Warnbro tomorrow for David’s birthday
bash. Be more later.
Deb and Den
