Friday
Xin Mei had to go to University today so I dropped her off
to the station. Surprised myself because
I didn’t need directions to get there.
Got there no worries at all. Had
only been there the day before. Found my
way to Xin Mei and Mathews the night before without directions as well. It was easy because we have been over here
before and I had a good idea where I was going.
Gave Caron a hand to try and fruit fly proof her peach
tree. Evidently the fruit fly over here is
the “Mediterranean” type and is different from the one found in the eastern
states. We use some special waxed paper
bags with a wire in the top to make a seal.
These bags were fitted over individual fruit to stop fruit fly attack. There were some sleeves made out of fly screen
material that seemed to be more effective because they could be slid over the
whole limb.
Unfortunately there was only one in the sample pack that
Caron had purchased. Deb had a grBagged eat idea
so off we went to Bunnings and got some fibre glass fly screen with very small
mesh. We made more sleeves by sewing the
fly wire together with nylon builders twine.
Worked very well.

Went to Garden City today.
Garden city is a very large shopping centre just south of Perth. We took Xin Mei there because it was the
first day of her new part time job. We
were able to get some souvenirs and do some shopping while we were there. Had no trouble getting there or back. Betty (GPS) showed us the way.
Mathew arrived home from his work up north today so when we
got back from Garden city we went to visit him.
Mathew is working as an archaeologist for a company doing surveys of
prospective mine sites. They look for
aboriginal artefacts etc. to ensure that they are not disturbed, at the same
time they are cataloguing any sites of cultural significance. He does 10 days away at a time and sometimes
is only home a few days. He’s off again
on Thursday.
Sunday
Took Caron up to the shop where she volunteers. It specialises in “Fair Trade” products. These are products that are purchased by reputable
companies and the suppliers of the raw products are paid a fair price for the
things they produce. The chocolate that
is sold in the shop is made from beans that were purchase for a fair
price. Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Chocolate is
now a “Fair Trade” product.

After purchasing some products from Caron we went up to Guildford. Last time we were here we went up to Guildford with Andrew and saw some beautiful old Studebaker cars. There were none there this time. We had a cuppa and snack at the Rose and Crown Hotel. It has been there since 1841. It is really well preserved and is a really relaxing place to have a cuppa.
Andy came home early from his patrol. He has been up off the North West coast
working out of Broome and going out to Rowley Shoals and has been away for 17
days. We picked him up from the airport after
his trip from Broome. The airport wasn’t
too far from Guildford and was a good dry run for when we pick up Jan, Bernie
and Ruth next Thursday and Liz, Liam and Becca the following Thursday.

We went to Bayswater to pick up Caron and while we were there Deb took some photos of the products they sell that Caron might be able to use in the blog for the shop. There were some videos as well which were really good.

Mathew and Xin Mei invited us, Caron, Andrew, Deb and myself around for a BBQ. Suzanne and Bilal were there and we had a very good night. Their outdoor area was really nice.
Monday is Caron’s birthday so will carry on from there.
